VoiceBox AAC

Everyone has something to say.
VoiceBox gives them a voice.

VoiceBox is a communication app for people who need help to speak.
Build sentences one word at a time, then VoiceBox will read it for them.
It is designed for iPad and works on iPhone too.

What it does

A sentence builder that does the grammar, so the person using it only has to choose the words.

Sentences that come out right

Only words that fit are offered next, and each comes in the right form: she wants, I went, the people are.

Speaks with one tap

Tap the sentence and it is read aloud, all in one go, so it sounds natural. Choose the voice, speed and pitch. It speaks even when the device is set to silent.

Find the right words

Words are grouped by topic (food, feelings, people, places), by parts of speech (noun, verb, adjective, adverb) and alphabetically. The most-used words are pinned at the top.

Fast talking

Want to quickly reply to a question whilst building a sentence? Tap the custom hotbar to say Yes, No or I need help without losing your place.

Personalise

Add their own words and switch off the ones they will never use. Settings stay hidden until a carer turns them on, so nothing gets changed by accident. Save favourite common sentences for quick access.

Private, and works offline

No account, no sign-in, no internet connection needed. A person shouln't fall silent just because the internet is down.

A look inside

What the person using VoiceBox sees, from the first word to a saved sentence.

  • VoiceBox with “I am tired and I want to go” in the sentence bar, and the Places group open showing home, outside, upstairs and other places

Build a whole sentence, word by word

  • After “I want to”, the word grid offers only verbs: be, like, go, help, want and others

Only words that fit come next

  • The Hotbar of ready-made phrases, I need help, Yes and No, above the grid, with “where is my” in the sentence bar and the Tech group open

    Everyday phrases, one tap away

  • Tapping the cake (s) tile offers cake or cakes

One tile for cake and cakes

  • The Sentences list: “can you help me?” saved as a favourite above two recent sentences

Favourite sentences, ready to say again
